Sunnyslope student-athlete Michael Humphrey grabs headlines, locally and nationally.

Senior Michael Humphrey embodies what is means to be a Viking. As a successful honors student with a 3.9 GPA, Michael also excels on the football field as Sunnyslope's starting quarterback (number 3) as the team completed a perfect 10-0 season on their way to the state playoffs.

If that wasn't enough, Michael became a heavily recruited basketball prospect this past summer, and recently committed to play at Stanford University. All of that success would get anyone's attention, and it did. Local sports columnists began to write articles and follow Michael on the field and on the court.

But that still wasn't enough. On October 17th, Yahoo.com put Michael as their first story on their front page. Quite an accomplishment, but deservedly so. He has got a big smile and a friendly demeanor; it's the same one he had when he started at Sunnyslope as a freshman almost 4 years ago. While Michael enjoys his new fanfare, it has not changed who he is. And that is a credit to his character and his family. Whether, in class, on the field, or on the court, thanks Michael for showing what is means to be a Viking!
